Exec Corner: Dance your heart out
Who doesn't love a good dancing show such as “Dancing with the Stars” or “So You Think You Can Dance” and now there's “Dance Life”? Everyone has their favourite shows and I must admit mine consist of shows that deal with law (“24” and “CSI”), tattoos (“Inked”), home improvements (“Sell This House”), and of course there are my dance shows (preferably “Dance Life”).
Dancing shows gives you the idea of how much fun it can be to let loose and to leave reality, even if it means just for a few minutes. I've been taking ballroom dancing since last year and there's no better hobby than dancing.
This year we, Erica Carr and I, have decided to host a dance contest for all students and staff of Fanshawe College. We have invited all students and staff from all Fanshawe's campuses, including Woodstock, Tillsonburg, St. Thomas, Simcoe, and even Galleria campus. We're trying to bring the groove and excitement to our school and we won't be able to do it without your help.
There have been so many students wondering why we don't have any dance contest? Well wait no more because this March 22, we are having our first ever dance-off contest held in Forwell Hall. Erica Carr and I have been working on this contest for over a month now and we're very excited to see just what kind of dance background Fanshawe students and staff have. We can't wait to meet all talented students that are ready to show off their dance moves.
Any students and staff that would like to show Fanshawe their dance moves are more than welcome to sign-up at the Biz Booth. All types of dance are welcome from jazz, ballet, to hip-hop; ballroom, and yes, breaking and popping are also welcome! You can have eight people or less in your team and you have more than a month to figure out what dance you will be doing.
There are great prizes to be won and it's worth just signing up. Dancers will be meeting in front of the Fanshawe Student Union office (SC2001) on February 21 at 4 p.m. There you will meet your competitions and you will get your rules and guidelines for the contest.
Students have been waiting for so long for an event like this to happen. We promise not to let you down because when we plan an event, we make sure it's extravagant! There will be dancers from around the community and also outside London to show us just what it's like to be part of a group or where you can take dance lessons. Mighty Falcon Dance Squad will also do a show for the event.
Just to give you an idea on what will be included for the night's agenda: Dance contest, live entertainers, Dance show from continuing education instructors, Mighty Falcon Dance Squad show, prizes and we will also be announcing the winner.
