Unbound 2025 brings a “SHIFT” to the fashion world

Teams of third-year fashion design students work each year to bring on Unbound to life.
Fanshawe’s fashion design students will be showing off their hard work next month. The 2025 Unbound Fashion Show will take place on April 12 at the college in Gym 3.
This year’s show is titled SHIFT—which stands for sustainability, heritage, inclusivity, fashion and technology, “to bring about the SHIFT that the fashion world needs to make.”
“As a fashion student, Unbound is something I have looked forward to since the first day I started the program,” said Olajumoke Emuobo. “I just knew that when I eventually got to my final year, it was going to be fabulous!”
Each year, the show features collections created by the third-year students, and this year there are 33 designers. Emuobo will be debuting her collection, Equilibrium.
“My life inspired my collection theme because my life has been about balancing all the roles I play as a mother, wife, teacher, designer, author, and student,” she said. “I just knew that if I could take on school with all the other things I had on my plate and excel at it, there is no other challenge I can’t take on. Now that I made it to the end, I have proven myself stronger than I thought I was, and I am extremely proud. My collection is a tribute to other women balancing all the many roles they play in their own lives.
Unbound is an opportunity to showcase the collections not only to fellow fashion design students, but also to their families, London locals, and professionals in the industry—and many students from other programs are also involved. The program’s coordinator Leigh-Ann Waller says this collaboration is what makes the event truly unique.
“To manage the complexity of this event, the class is divided into three teams, each responsible for key aspects of production, with guidance and mentorship from fashion design faculty,” Waller said. “Bringing Unbound to life takes more than just fashion design expertise. This event is a collaborative effort involving 16 different programs from Fanshawe College. It’s in this real-world experience that the magic happens—students working together, across disciplines, with a shared goal of producing an unforgettable event.”
One of the students helping out with the show from outside of the program is Natasha Ziza.
“Honestly, this event is all about community for me,” Ziza said. “It’s incredible to see everyone—from designers and students to volunteers, faculty, and more—coming together to support Fanshawe and its amazing talent.”
Ziza is a fourth-year digital marketing student who is working on the show as part of her co-op.
“There’s so much creativity here, and it’s really special to watch people collaborate and bring their ideas to life,” she added. “It’s not just about the show itself; it’s about creating a space where people can connect, get inspired, and celebrate one another.”
Ziza’s focus on the show has been social media marketing, and she is working on a team with 11 other students—an experience she said she’s enjoyed.
“We’ve had a blast sharing all the wonderful things Unbound has been up to, from showcasing the 33 designers to spreading the word about sustainable fashion. I’m very proud to be part of something that celebrates creativity and inspires meaningful change!”
Tickets to Unbound 2025 are available on the Fanshawe College website. The event starts at 7 p.m. with doors opening an hour earlier, and an after-party will be held in Oasis.
