Trump’s election win sparks wave of misogyny from online far-right community
Far-right activist, Nick Fuentes (pictured) sparked outrage online after saying, 'Your body, my choice.'
After the US election, in which Donald Trump won the popular vote, Republicans took to TikTok to celebrate their win.
In the midst of the celebratory tweets came a TikTok video from Nick Fuentes, a far-right political live streamer and social media user.
“Hey b*tch, we control your bodies,” Fuentes boasted in the video posted Nov. 6. “Guess what. Guys win again. OK, men win again, and yes, we control your bodies. It’s your body. My choice.”
Fuentes’ account has since been banned on TikTok for being associated with hateful behaviour, but other users have reposted this video. I was also unable to find any account associated with him on Instagram, however, his X account is still up and he has been active since the controversy began.
I cannot even comprehend the hate Fuentes has for women. I think, with the whole of my being, that women should have full autonomous control over their bodies and make choices for themselves. The fact that a man, a person who will never in his life need to pee on a pregnancy stick and come to the hard realization that they are pregnant with a child, has the sheer audacity to make the above statements.
Since the US Supreme Court Roe v. Wade in 2022, 64,000 women have been forced to bear the child of their rapist, according to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Women have taken to TikTok to reply to Fuentes’s initial video.
“Time to get a carry and concealed license ‘cause if my body is your choice, your body’s my choice too,” a TikTok video from Emily Rosa (@emilyyrosaa) said. “And if I’m already gonna be charged as a murderer for abortion, might as well give him an actual f*cking body.”
A large sum of the videos and comments surrounding this topic contain the same sentiments.
“There will never, ever be a female president,” Fuentes went on in his initial video. “Never. There will never be a female president ever. Glass ceiling, dude, It’s a ceiling made of f*cking bricks. You will never break it. Your stupid face keeps hitting the brick ceiling. We will keep you down forever. You will never control your own bodies…No more abortions.”
This thought process terrifies me. Because of our chromosomes, women have been seen as lesser-than for years. I understand that not every conservative or right-wing person shares these same values, but this man has a following of over 400,000, just on X.
Women have been fighting for equality, and the US took a huge step back when it overturned Roe v. Wade.
It terrifies me that the US is seeing this regression, and I am nervous to find out how far this regression will go. Will these issues come to Canada?
