The Good
RE: Interrobang's coverage of the Municipal Election, November 6, 2006.
I was on a three-hour break from class the other day, and I decided to pick up the weekly edition of Interrobang to see what the fuss is about this week. I looked at the front page and I almost fell off my chair! What? Fanshawe students actually know that a city exists outside this microcosm we call college?? There was actually coverage on the municipal election, and as a full-time citizen of London, I was impressed to say the least. Keep up the good work Interrobang.. your hard work doesn't go unnoticed.

The Bad
RE: Interrobang's October 23 Sex Issue cover
I am writing you in response to the issue with the Barbie's on the front page. I was disgusted and appalled at the suggestive position of the Barbie's displayed as a cover shot.

There are many parents, both student and faculty, that like to bring your paper home to read and after that issue I have completely lost respect for your paper. If I had realized that your paper was the equivalent of a porno magazine I would have boycotted it a long time ago. I do understand the article that went in relation to photo on the front, but it was unnecessary to put a photo such as that to display your message.

There are also many people that bring their children into the school and the paper is boldly displayed in your racks throughout the school. No child should be exposed to graphic pictures such as that, especially when "Barbie's" are a common play toy among children. I will never read an issue of your paper again. The suggestion that I would leave a disgusting magazine around for my child to see and to compare your paper with trash such as that, shows me the absolute disrespect your paper has for the diversity of students and faculty in your building.

The Ugly
RE: Garbage and Recycling on Campus
I am a fifth semester Environmental Technology student as well as a part time janitor here at Fanshawe. As such, I have a few observations and comments that I'd like to pass on to my fellow students.

First of all; don't litter.

This may seem like something that everyone knows, but I'm still amazed by some people. Time and time again I will see someone unwrap a chocolate bar, or finish a bag of chips and simply throw the wrapper on the ground. Please be considerate and take the time to put your garbage where it belong; in a garbage can.

Something else that is a major issue at Fanshawe is the lack of student awareness of recycling. At home, we all know how to recycle. There are certain items that can go in your blue box, and certain items that are garbage. It seems to me that when people come to school, they forget all about this. In the Oasis, beside almost every garbage container, there is a blue recycling bin. These bins are meant for glass or plastic drink bottles, and aluminum cans; NOT for garbage. Constantly I see people who carelessly throw their recycling into the garbage bins or their garbage into the recycling containers. If there is high enough garbage content in with the recyclable material, it will get rejected at the recycling depot and sent to the landfill. Recycling is a very important aspect of waste disposal. Landfills are very difficult to come by (as we in London should know by the recent uproar over Toronto buying our dump!). We all need to do our part to reduce the amount of trash sent to landfills.

My final comment is directed towards the germ-aphobes at Fanshawe. The problem is with people who don't like to touch door handles, and lately it has been particularly noticeable in the washrooms. These people will wash their hands and then use the paper towel they dry their hands with to open the door. I don't have a problem with this. The problem is that they then proceed to throw the paper towel on the ground. This results in a pile up of used paper towels behind the bathroom door. This is not only messy, it is unsanitary. So please, be considerate of the rest of us and dispose of your used paper towels. Fanshawe is our school and we should be proud of it! If we all do our part, we can keep it looking great.
