From the Editor

Greetings, new and returning members of the Fanshawe community. Welcome to Interrobang’s 2019 Orientation Issue.

This time of year means getting ready for new routines, new friends, and best of all, new challenges. Many students come to college for different reasons. You could be here because you just finished high school and college is the next logical step into adulthood. Conversely, you’re here to start a new career after years in the field. And like many students, you could be here because you are new to Canada, and you’re eager to see what opportunities lie ahead.

Whatever the reason, I advise each and every one of you to be open to both the ups and downs that college inevitably brings. Education is about more than grades, it is about embracing whatever new experience comes your way. Do your best, don’t be too hard on yourselves, and go with the flow whenever you can.

Our news section has coverage on the Fanshawe Student Union’s (FSU) upcoming Frosh Week, LTC bus service updates effective Sept. 1, as well as the outlook for ongoing construction projects in Downtown London. There’s also a useful piece outlining the potential consequences of participating in unsanctioned student parties. On that note, I strongly urge our readers to always think critically and responsibly while celebrating the start of the school year.

Our opinion section includes perspectives on religion, television and sexual harassment, as well as a few student takes on changes made to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). How have the changes impacted you? Let me know at a_mcinnes2@nullfanshawec.ca.

The lifestyles section includes a guide on LTC bus etiquette and general tips for international students. We have a review of Rick Ross’ latest album, and an exclusive interview with Music Industry Art’s alumna Haviah Mighty, who was recently nominated for a Polaris Prize.

Finally in sports, you’ll find coverage on the College’s new golf simulator, a review of the new electric Jaguar I-PACE, and an overview of Fanshawe’s 2019-20 opening game schedules.

Make it a habit to keep yourself informed on campus and local news by picking up a weekly copy of Interrobang, out every Friday starting Sept. 6. You can also connect with us on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

And so it goes,

Angela McInnes
