What is OCMC you may ask?

Every year Fanshawe sends 22 students to represent the Business Studies Division and Fanshawe to show off our highly skilled and talented students to the Ontario Colleges' Marketing Competition.

The OCMC continues to bring hundreds of highly motivated graduate-level business students and dynamic faculty together to showcase their business talents and earn top awards for teamwork and strategic thinking.

This prestigious competition is hosted annually by an individual college and is driven as a student-centered event, with volunteer faculty providing organizational assistance.

The OCMC provides students with an extremely valuable learning experience and is funded annually by corporate sponsors, the Host College, and registration fees. There are eight different categories of cases, which include entrepreneurship, marketing, market research, direct marketing, global marketing, retail, sales management, and integrated marketing communications. Each team comprises of two students with a strong knowledge of there category.

There is also one job interview, one sales interview and a Quiz Bowl team, which is comprised of four students. This year the competition is held in Ottawa and we will need your help to get us there. The team is hosting a pub on Friday, November 10; tickets are on sale now, five dollars advanced and six dollars at the door. There is a great line up of bands playing at the pub including, Staylefish, Ruth's Hat and Radcliffe. 100 per cent of ticket sales go towards sending the team to Ottawa.

Profs in the business studies division have agreed to allow students to throw pies in their faces for a small fee of ten dollars per pie at the pub. This is your chance as students to get back at your profs for that bad grade. There is also a raffle draw to win a trip for two to Montreal for New Year's Eve graciously donated by Breakaway Tours, a pair of Goo Goo Dolls Tickets, a pair of Raptor's tickets, and a set of four Knights tickets.

Along with these fun events and prizes, the team will also be selling Kapow Pops and glow in the dark fundraising bracelets. These items and tickets can be purchased at the Biz Booth.

Your support is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the pub. The Fanshawe OCMC team would like to thank everyone who has purchased tickets and supported us, especially Academica Research; Vector Marketing; Amanda Barbosa at Breakway Tours (see http://www.breakawaytours.com/ for affordable student travel), Sean Dennis at Maple Leafs Entertainment, Stephanie Haus from The John Labatt Centre, Dave Smith, Retail Services; Kevin Masterson, Fanshawe Biz Booth; and all of our other sponsors and volunteers.
