Fashion Fashionista: Forecasting fashion's future

Stepping into a movie theatre this time of year, it comes as no surprise that the hottest flicks out are those of gruesome deaths, haunting tales and unsolved mysteries. However the film that I just witnessed had nothing to do with mass murder, or haunted houses, yet it was quite possibly the scariest movie I have ever seen.

A horror film that opens your eyes to actual concerns and global fears that are scientifically proven to cause mass destruction in our lifetime.

An Inconvenient Truth had been brought to my attention most recently and it's clear to see that the circumstance that we find ourselves in today, will affect not only fashion but the entire world, as soon as tomorrow.

Now, what does any of this really have to do with fashion? Well, not that it's the most relevant subject in relation to the global warming topic; but it has everything to do with weather and dressing for the climate. But when the climate is thrown off course, then how do you prepare and plan for what to wear?

A common mistake, seen mostly in women, is the assumption that less is more. Freezing in a mini is not sexy nor smart, however being draped in a stylish pashmina with knee high boots, topped with lots of layering gives you the option to take it off if it's warm, or keep it on if the weather drastically changes to a bitter cold. Being prepared for any type of weather change is key.

We do not have to go to a movie, or turn on the weather channel to be educated; we can simply look out our windows. The drastic change from hot and sunny, to a snowy blizzard happens almost overnight, yet most of us think nothing of this.

This unusual pattern not only will effect what you wear on any given day, but more importantly the entire world, as we know it.

Fashion forecasting and weather forecasting have much in common; however the point of this article is not to give you the latest trends for the season but encourage you to go to climatecrisis.net and to view the future trends for yourself. If we have no world to be stylish in, then what's the point?

This information may come as a real inconvenience, however the more you know (just as in fashion) the further ahead you are. This world is yours just as much as it is anyone else's — take it back.
