Coming soon, new double disc for Ruth's Hat

“50 years of music crammed into one band” is the best way to describe Ruth's Hat.

The band first merged their talents in 1997, with a sugary pop/punk sound that began the bands musical career in London. The music scene has since switched from genre to genre, but Ruth's Hat has remained loyal to their sound.

Fusing together a various number of influences stretching from; Green Day, Buddy Holly, The Ramones, Chuck Berry and Hank Williams, singer Mike Sloan, guitarist, and brother, PJ Sloan, bass guitarist Jack McCallum and drummer Dereyk Goodwin, also of Staylefish, have created a catchy, hard rockin' sound like none other.

September 29, 2006 was the official CD release party for Ruth's Hat at the Salt Lounge, which resulted in a huge success all around with a good turn out and plenty of CD sales.

Ruth's Hat brand new, double disc set, “Nostalgic for Right Now/The Sun Sessions” was put on sale for an awesome deal of $10 at their release party, which is a small price to pay for 17 tracks of raw 50's rock n' roll mixed with the sugar coated 60's and injected with late 70's punk-zest.

“Nostalgic for Right Now/The Sun Sessions” is Ruth's Hats third full-length release with “Nostalgic” recorded here in London and “The Sun Sessions” at Sun Studios, in Memphis Tennessee, where music legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis first recorded their classics.

Sloan said he was “freaking-out and ecstatic to be playing the same instruments and recording in the same studio as the music legends from Rock and Rolls birth.” Personally I can't blame him and feel really envious, as would any, self-respecting music lover.

Aside from the great CD deal, Ruth's Hat put on an incredibly fervent and fun show that put the entire crowd into a head-boppin,' foot tappin' trance.

Although they are planning to tour following their new release, Ruth's Hat concentrating more toward distribution throughout CD stores and mail order on Interpunk.com by late October, in both Canada and the United States, as well as radio coverage to get the attention they deserve.

The band has a steady track record, with gigs on the Warped Tour, at the 2005 Memorial Cup and even at the famous birthplace of punk, CBGB's in New York City. Ruth's Hat has also shared the stage with Sum 41, Goldfinger and The Mad Caddies.

Ruth's Hat has been around for a while and it all seems to be paying off, so keep an eye out for these guys. You can check them out at ruthshat.com or on myspace.com/ruthshat to get a sample of their music.

For a real taste of these eclectic artists come out to the Out Back Shack on November 10, where Ruth's Hat will be playing with good friends Staylefish. All proceeds will go to Fanshawe's Marketing students and will also include some special events- like throwing pies at professors.

Hope to see you there as I'm sure it will be a good time, after all, just as Sloan said, “100 Ruth's Hat fans can't be wrong.”
