On Oct. 21, the winner of this 2011 Chevrolet Cruze will be announced in Z-building. Fanshawe's School of Transportation Technology repaired the car and the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) funded the project.

One lucky Fanshawe student will win the keys to a Chevrolet Cruze on Oct. 21 in Z-building.

With only a week left before the big day, all 15 finalists have been declared. They are as follows: Raymond Su, Alexander Ham, Sally Gunter, Holly Huys, Sonath An, Cameron Auld, Liam Doyle, David Ball, Jennika Harte, Rochelle Longboat, Jennifer Parolin, Sabrina Discianni, Lily Dang, Juan Cuenca and Victoria Budziszewska.

“We are extremely excited about this event, it’s going to be really neat to see how passionate the final 15 are,” said Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) president Alan Bushell.

On Oct. 21, the finalists will gather in Z-building and each will be given a key to try and unlock a box. If their key unlocks the box, the keys to the car are inside.

“It’s probably going to be one of the best atmospheres you are going to see this year of student engagement so recommend anyone who wants to see excitement to come out there because it’s going to be a great day,” Bushell said.

Last year, the FSU partnered with the School of Transportation Technology to make this car giveaway a reality.

“It’s a win win situation, we [got] a vehicle to work on that [was] fairly up to date and that is usually a financial burden,” said Blaine Young, co-ordinator of the School of Transportation Technology in a press release. “This way we got a vehicle, someone to pick up the tab for some of the parts, the students get the experience and one lucky student gets the car.”

As Oct. 21 draws nearer, the excitement grows for the finalists, FSU and School of Transportation Technology.

“It really shows off the great work that the School of Transportation does and how the FSU supports students,” Bushell said. “I think it’s going to be amazing.”
