Ward 3 councillor Mohamed Salih was guest of honour at the Immigration Information Seminar during International Week.

Fanshawe International Week opened with flash mobs everywhere in the college surprising staff and students and welcoming them to a warm opening to the weeklong event, which began February 2.

Later that afternoon, students connected with all diversity and cultures. Different forms of dance, music and buzzing melody from different cultures engaged the international students who attended.

The Immigration Information Seminar on the second day of International Week welcomed Mohamed Salih as guest of honour, who spoke about his journey from Sudan to London’s city council.

He told a story about a little boy from Sudan who came to Canada as an immigrant with his mother and sister, which inspired the journeys of many international students present at the seminar.

“I came to Canada and lived in an area with absolutely no diversity at all,” Salih said. “Learning about the culture, picking up the language and the adopting to the multi diversity lifestyle has been a challenge as well as an enriching journey.”

Salih encouraged attendees to unite with diversity. He promised international students a better transit system, and, being on the tourism committee, he would focus on making downtown London a wonderful and amusing destination for the people from around the world to meet, cheer and celebrate.

Director of London Economic Development Commission Robert Collins presented a short and sweet presentation about living in London and the dynamic avenues of entrepreneurships and ever-blossoming technical job market.

Fanshawe College was flocked with diversity and cultural events all week.
