I like the way you move

HOLLA Fanshawe! This is your Vice President of Athletics Rubelyn Ubando. First and foremost, I would like to welcome everyone to our wonderful school and would like to take this time to say FUNshawe really is FUN! It's not the programs that we offer or the different types of sports that make the experience unforgettable, it's people like you; the students that make this school inviting and at the same time FRICKIN' FANTASTIC.

My job as VP Athletics is to oversee the Student Athletic Program, which is intercollegiate and  campus recreation programs We offer sport teams such as Men's and Women's basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton, x-country, and golf. So if you were an athlete in high school, make sure to pop by the FSU office for more information on try-outs.

You can also stop by the Athletic Department (J 1034), which is full of amazing individuals that are willing to do everything they can to help you out with anything you need (sports or not sports related).

Not athletic? That's okay! FUNshawe in addition, carries many other intramural programs. Floor hockey, five-on-five basketball, co-ed volleyball, and indoor soccer are just a few of the sports we recommend you try. We have also started up a club which is the new Fanshawe Booster Club, which used to be called “Ultimate Fan Crew,” but has now been renamed “The Mighty Falcon Squad.”

There are two parts of The Mighty Falcon Squad. One part is for anyone who is enthusiastic, out-going, and full of energy. If you're the type of person that likes to meet new people, have fun, and watch the game, this is the best place to be. If you have a talent that you would like to share (singer, magician, dancer, comic, etc), let me know and I will try to reserve a spot during half time for you.

The other part of The Mighty Falcon Squad is for all the dancers out there. “If you think you can dance” or want to see if you've got the groove, please sign-up for the try-out, which will be held in the Forwell Hall on Tuesday, September 19th and Thursday, September 21st at 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Whether you were a past cheerleader, danced your whole life, or just love to show off your dance skills, I recommend you to sign-up for this. It's open for everyone, girls and guys. All you need is your student card. We have a certified coach Nicole Scott, who is willing to help make this team a successful one. During the try-out, you will be given a little routine and be expected to repeat it after. We will then e-mail you or post a list of people who made the team in front of the FSU office (SC2001). To be in the team, you must be able to commit time for practice and for our home games to perform during half time.

The reason we have the Mighty Falcon Squad is to cheer on our home team. The more people we can get out to watch the games, the better it'll be. We're not here to just show that our school has spirit, because we're also here to support our hard working athletes. I really hope that everyone considers being a part of this Booster Club. It's a great way to meet new people, hang out with friends, get to know our athletes, and be a part of the school.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call at 519.452.4109 ext 6308 or e-mail me at fsuathletics@fanshawec.ca. I'm located in the Student Centre (upstairs of the Oasis, SC2001) and pretty much live there, so I would love it if you stopped by the office just to say “wassup!” I hope to meet each and every single one of you, so please, please, please, let me know if I can help.
