You don't have to feel this way about moving anymore!

It's nearly that time of year again, when students pack up the dorm rooms they've been living in for the past eight (or more) months and bring everything they own back to their childhood homes.

Moving — the worst, most stressful thing people dread. Everyone can agree, it certainly is one of the top stressors in life. Taking everything you own apart and packing it into boxes then shipping it to your new place to set it all up again. Yeah, that is stressful, to say the least!

Whether you're moving back home or into a brand-new place of your own, moving is still moving no matter where you are going, and it is stressful! Over the Reading Week break, I had to move, and I have some simple and easy suggestions to make your move go as smoothly as possible, because, trust me, you want it to!

The packing is the easiest part of your move, but it's one thing I highly recommend you don't leave til the day before you move. When packing, you should judge how much you have to cart around. Most of us students really don't have too much to move, which is a good thing! What I found that helped the most was to set daily goals of what to have packed. Start with the stuff you rarely use and then work toward the most frequently used stuff. The night before moving day, it's time to pack up all the essentials that you use every day. With the essentials I found what worked best was to pack them in a bag that I could carry around to ensure that I wouldn't spend my first night at my new pad hunting around for my toothbrush!

When the packing and moving is over, it's time for the not-so-fun part: unpacking and organizing. The very first thing you should get set up is your bed so you're not sleeping on your floor or couch your first night. Once you have that set up, the kitchen is the second most important. It may take the longest, but the sooner you can cook yourself a meal in your brand-new kitchen, the sooner you'll feel at home. From there, you can settle your bathroom, living area and dining room. Setting daily goals of areas that you want to get set up will help you keep on track and will assist you in getting settled as quickly as possible!

Don't get discouraged when it feels like it is taking forever to unpack and get settled. Always remember moving is very stressful and it does take time to get everything in its place. Another note: once you think you settled you may think to yourself that one particle item doesn't work well in that spot, so even then you could be changing small things around for a month or two.

If you are moving at the end of the school year, keep in mind it always help to start packing a little early, it will help your move go smoother, which is important in stressful times!
