Mixing your foundation will save you money and give you a custom product.

People often think that when they are getting bored or tired of their foundation they need to replace it with a new one. While change is usually good, it isn't always the most fiscal thing to do, especially when your current foundation can easily be altered to fit your needs.

If you find that your skin is getting drier (especially in the winter months) or just feel that your foundation is too thick, there is a really simple way to alter it. If your skin needs more hydration, mix a little bit of your face cream into your foundation to create a tinted moisturizer that will provide a lot more hydration and decent coverage. If you just want to thin out your foundation, mix a hydrating face serum or a gel-textured moisturizer in with it so you will keep the similar coverage but will lighten up the texture of the foundation.

If you feel that you need a sun protection factor (SPF) in your foundation, especially in the summer, it can be as easy as mixing a really lightweight sunscreen into your foundation. La Roche- Posay's Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid mixes perfectly with most foundations. If your daily face cream has an SPF in it, that can also be mixed to provide more hydration as well.

Sometimes you can feel that your foundation is becoming too dull or isn't bringing enough radiance to your complexion. Instead of going out and purchasing a radiant foundation, mix a highlighter or radiance serum (Estée Lauder Idealist) with the product you already have. Lancôme's Éclat Miracle and Benefit's High Beam mixed with your foundation will give your complexion a subtle radiance without feeling too heavy or layered. If you want more of a sun-kissed radiance, Benefit's Sun Beam can add a perfect glow to your base.

If you are having one of those days where you feel like you need more coverage from your foundation, instead of going out and buying a pan stick or caking your makeup on, mix in a bit of a cream concealer. Shiseido's Natural Finish Cream Concealer adds the right amount of coverage to your foundation without making it look cakey or feel too heavy. If the reason you feel you need more coverage is because you are showing more redness in your complexion, mix in a green concealer. The green section of the Lise Watier portfolio does an excellent job at counteracting the redness in the skin — just make sure not to add too much of the green concealer or else you'll change the shade of your foundation.

When it comes to your foundation, don't be afraid to get experimental with it and a little bit creative. You would be surprised at how you can alter your foundation to fit your needs. This will save you from constantly having to buy new foundations and will let you have a custom foundation whenever you need it.
