When you lack creativity, Valentine's Day can easily become very cliché, very fast. Everyone's done the classic bring-her-roses-and-take-her-out-for-a-nice-dinner Valentine's date before, so this year's the year to change it up.

GO ON AN ADVENTURE
Unexplored small towns tend to have a certain je ne sais quois about them. Do some research and then take your date to a nearby town and make a day of it. See the sights, walk through a park in the snow, try a one-of-a-kind restaurant, or visit a local museum.

SNUGGLE UP AT A SHOW
If you want to hit the movies with your date, opt for a more exciting experience than a normal theatre. Go shopping together for all of the junk food you love and fill up the car with pillows and blankets. The drive-in is a more personal movie experience, and you can stay in your PJs!

SPEND TIME WITH OTHERS TOGETHER
It may seem like a strange idea, but by doing something good for someone else will bring you closer together. You can volunteer at a soup kitchen, collect clothing to donate or spend your time to a local hospital. Whatever you decide to do, doing something together for others will make you both feel great.

GET COMPETITIVE
Let your competitive side show by busting out the cards, board games and video games. If you think you'll need more than two players, invite a few other couples to join in the game tournament!

DESTINATION: DINNERTIME
If you still want to have a fancy sit-down meal with your partner, try going to a few of your favourite restaurants just for an appetizer or two. This way you can get a variety of your favourite foods. If you prefer meals over appetizers, narrow your favourite restaurants down to three and go to one for a drink, one for your entrée, and one for dessert!

Now it's time to come up with a creative, unique gift. When you think of Valentine's Day gifts, you probably picture some roses and a heart-shaped box of chocolates. These are the go-to gifts for a reason, but giving your special someone something more personal will be remembered forever.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE JEWELLERY
Another common Valentine's Day gift is jewellery, but a piece with a more personal touch, such as a picture of you two side-by-side in a locket, will be much more appreciated.

CHOCOLATE WITH A TWIST
Instead of grabbing a box of chocolates that will most likely be devoured in a day, give your honey a fondue set or a chocolate fountain that he or she can keep reusing for the other 364 days of the year.

TIME TO CHILL OUT
Give your partner the chance to unwind at a spa. Some spas even have deals for couples so you can join in on the pampering as well!

SHOW YOU CARE
Instead of a bunch of flowers that will wilt within a day, make a care package of things your partner can use more than once. Include things such as perfume or cologne, body butter or fancy moisturizer, lip-gloss, nail polish, fuzzy slippers, or hair care products.

KEEP ENTERTAINED
Whether it's a collection of her favourites or some new ones he hasn't read or seen, movies and books are a great gift, and can be used endlessly.

These are just a few suggestions to get you thinking — you're the one who knows your partner, so add a more personal touch to these ideas.
