Taking a look back on an interesting year in the wrestling ring

Well, it's been an interesting year in wrestling. We have a champ that gets just as many boos as cheers, we've lost a great wrestler in Eddie Guerrero (and has the tragedy been stretched more than we thought possible) and McMahon has totally lost it with this whole new McMahonism “religion.” The God/McMahon feud has just made me shake my head and that, combined with us hearing Kane's “inside” voices, has made me almost embarrassed to be a wrestling fan. Anyone else agree?

At least we had TNA (now on at 11pm on Thursdays on Spike TV) provide a star-studded, one-hour event that rocked and also had Samoa Joe regain the X-Division championship (only to have Sabu come out after the match to overshadow the win). At least TNA is still headed in the right direction. Hopefully by the time the next semester starts, TNA will be on in prime time.

Whose idea is it for Smackdown to have a Great Kahli vs. Funaki match? I don't even know if the term “squash” begins to describe this.

Speaking of more interesting decisions in the WWE, what's up with the King of the Ring tournament being exclusive to the Smackdown brand? My friends and I love the WWE PPVs that have both brands involved, because usually we see the best in the company and we get a little diversity, so this decision is a little boggling and disappointing. Perhaps this event will help me get back into the “must watch” Smackdown mode and not just read the spoilers.

ECW's One Night Stand has already sold out and you can already see a preview of who's going to be a part of this year's event over at www.ecw.com. The whole unfortunate thing about hyping this PPV is that the WWE had to release some teaser posters and it ruins the next RAW PPV. If you don't want some spoilers, stop reading…NOW. The poster features HHH with the belt and RVD with the Money in the Bank briefcase. I knew that RVD was going to probably use the briefcase at the ECW event but now we know for sure that HHH will be walking out of Backlash with the title and now it wouldn't be surprising to see RVD walk out of the PPV with the Intercontinental Belt.

Well, that's it for this year. I hope you've enjoyed my columns and I'm sure you'll see me back next year.
