Fanshawe Fashionista: Many shades of cool

Spring and summer is quickly approaching, and some days it seems like the season has already arrived. With all of the UV rays coming our way, you want to make sure your eyes are covered.

Squinting in the sun not only increases facial wrinkles but it is damaging to your eyes, so getting decked out in the latest eyewear is a must. With so many leading names to choose from the selection process is a difficult one, but there are some basic rules to remember when choosing new shades. First you must first consider face shape and size; if you have a very broad face, a pair of larger frames will help to balance out your structure. For more petite or delicate features, choose a pair that is proportional to your face, which may mean a smaller frame shape.

You don't need to ignore this season's trends though, when picking a frame suited for your face.

Jackie O's infamous dark, large, rounded glasses are making a comeback this summer, as big glasses will once again grace our face, as the look is classic and complements almost everyone. They make you feel glamorous and add a rich touch to any outfit, so whether you're at the beach or driving to work, you'll be doing so in style.

Aviator style sunglasses are always a good choice, for both men and women. Ray-Ban's Large Metal Aviators are a great pair to try; they're sexy and trendy, and come in a variety of colors.

Men's glasses are starting to incorporate Giorgio Armani's philosophy of functionality with sexy style. You can find some of the latest looks from Christian Dior, to Gucci, Burberry, Diesel and many more right downtown on Richmond Row at Cross Eyed Optical. Not only are the prices for designer sunglasses unbeatable, but the quality and service is worth the trip.

If you tend to sit on your sunglasses, know that high-end frames come with high-end quality, which translates to a much stronger pair. But you might want to consider a less expensive pair if you tend to lose things!

Almost anything goes for sunglasses, but a few no-nos would be the mirrored look of the 80's, tints of blue or purple, and really small round frames. As long as you stick to the basic and classic styles, you're sure to look fabulous.

So whether you're crusin', sun bathin' or just out roamin' the streets on a beautiful sunny day, remember that for practicality, visibility and to complete any ensemble, sunglasses are a sure thing.
