Exec Corner: Melissa Poulin bringing cheer to the Council

Hey Fanshawe, My name is Melissa Poulin and I am your new Vice President of Athletics for the remainder of the 2006 year.

I am currently enrolled in Pre-Health Sciences and plan to become a Respiratory Therapist. I am grateful and excited to have this position, and plan to continue the great success that Fanshawe has had in Athletics.

The driving factor for my interest in athletics started from a very young age. Growing up, like many Canadian fathers, my dad would watch Hockey Night in Canada. Unlike my mom, who believed that “hockey sucks”, I continued to watch and soon would have a weekly addiction. In elementary school I played almost every sport and was lucky enough to win the female athlete award in grade 8. When I moved onto high school, at John Paul II in London, my interest in cheerleading emerged. During my high school career I was an annual member of the John Paul II Jaguars cheerleading team and attained the position of team captain in my senior year. After high school I took a couple of years off to “save” money in order to attend my new home, Fanshawe College.

During my orientation at Fanshawe I came to the realization that my new school did not host a cheerleading team. After talking with the student council I took on the role of organizing the first ever Fanshawe Falcons cheerleading team! Our team is currently building our skills in order to start intercollegiate competition next year. I am a strong supporter of student involvement in my decision making so I encourage you to direct any questions or suggestions about Fanshawe athletics to my attention. You can reach me at any time by phone at 519.452.4109 ext. 6308 or through email at fsuathletics@fanshawec.ca Thanks everyone and have a great year!
