CES Fanshawe thanks TD for new location

Fanshawe's Community Employment Services (CES) accepted a donation from TD Canada Trust on January 20.

Fanshawe approached TD Canada Trust last year regarding a TD branch that was closing not too far from Fanshawe's London campus, in hopes of creating a new CES Fanshawe location. Catherine Finlayson, Executive Director for the Fanshawe College Foundation, said, "It was brought to our attention that the space was becoming available, so we did ask them to help us out. Our foundation called and asked and they were happy to help us out."

TD Canada Trust donated the space to CES Fanshawe at 155 Clarke Rd. in the Nelson Park Plaza so they could open a new site. The donation was for a twoyear lease for the 2,600 square foot branch.

"It's a great location, high profile for the community and very accessible for the community members," Finlayson said.

In addition to the building donation, TD donated enough funds to help run the facility for two years, including maintenance costs. "I think it just shows that there are different ways that organizations can support a foundation, and this is sort of a unique way," said Finlayson.

CES Fanshawe is an organization aimed at helping community members of London and the Middlesex region find employment. They offer support in career advising, job placements and apprenticeship programs, among other helpful services such as interview skills workshops and Internet job search workshops. In addition, they offer support in upgrading education for people returning to the workforce.

Employers also use the services of CES to find employees; this is particularly helpful with new businesses entering London for the first time. Employers can access job-posting services as well as receive support for job fairs and pre-screening of clients.
