Wikipedia offers students $1,000 scholarship

Wikipedia: we all know it, we all love it, and many of us even contribute to it. This year, Wikimedia Canada is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a student currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution who makes the greatest improvement to a diseaserelated article.

Wikipedia contains over 3.7 million articles in the English language alone, of which 2,300 pertain to the practice of medicine. Each page has approximately 150 to 200 million views each month. However, of the top 100 most viewed medical articles, only a quarter are deemed to be "high quality." Wikimedia Canada is looking for students help to add high-quality, well-researched information to their content.

The Wikipedian Canada Scholarship in Medicine applications opened on September 10, and will remain open until February 28, with a winner being decided on March 31.

The submissions will be judged based on the overall improvement to a disease related article and the importance of the article within the field of medicine. Content must be well-written, factually accurate, neutral, comprehensive, have consistent citations and must achieve either top-importance or highimportance status.
