Fanshawe receives $6 million in funding for arts campus

Over the summer, Khalil Ramal, MPP London-Fanshawe, announced that Fanshawe College would be receiving $6 million in provincial grants to open a new School of Applied and Performing Arts in London's downtown core.

The announcement was preceded by a few words from Britta Winter, Chair of Fanshawe's Board of Governors, who spoke of the school's "ambitious plans for the future."

Dr. Howard Rundle, President of Fanshawe College, expressed his gratitude and stressed "the importance of this to the school is huge," further calling the opportunity "irresistible."

The plans for the new downtown campus, the completion date of which has yet to be announced, will cover an expansive 11,900 square feet made up of renovated spaces and heritage buildings. The project will create approximately 75 construction-related jobs.

When finished, the campus will have room for a multitude of new students in a wide variety of disciplines including theatre arts, design, media, culinary and hospitality. Of the vast array of new programs to be implemented, Ramal said, "We will be creating dynamic human beings," adding, "our government's investment in the Fanshawe campus adds to the province's future prosperity. Every community, every region must have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and well-being of Ontario."

The newest educational institution will add to Ramal's vision of making London the educational centre of Ontario, he said. With its large campus and variety of programs, the new School of Applied and Performing Arts is certainly a positive step towards achieving that dream.
