New Age Gentleman: Happy holidays, and goodbye

This is my final article, due to the fact that my years here at Fanshawe are finishing up and the workload is really starting to pile on due to exams and end of semester projects.  Going into my last semester will be no picnic either, and I have found it harder and harder to write an article.  Hence this will be my final article and I wish you all a good school year and certainly a good life.

I would like to extend thanks to John Said, who gave me my chance to get started with this article a few years back.

I would like to mention the passing of a great friend and teacher, Barry Sarazin. Without him, the Radio program would not be where it is today so for that Barry, I thank you.

It was when I heard the news of Barry's passing that I started thinking about all the friends you make when you're in school and how easy it is to lose touch with them.  So I was thinking Christmas, and other holidays, of course, is the perfect time to get in touch with your friends again.  You could pick up a gift certificate and stop in to say hi, or have some sort of Christmas party.  The last thing you want when you leave college or university is lose touch with everyone who has made a contribution to your life.

I'm sorry for being a little preachy, but I've had the experience all too often of knowing someone and then they vanish off the face of the earth.  You get an occasional email or phone call, but it's a far cry from hanging out and creating memories that are cherished. After you leave the world of classes and hanging out at the halls and various student lounge areas, you'll be in a whole new world.  A world of jobs, politics of all sorts and trust me, it'll be worth it to give your college buddies a call once in a while.  One day, mark my words, one day we will all be working or doing something with our lives and the stress and pressure will be hammering down.  And nothing will be more refreshing than recalling good times with old friends.

Don't get too caught up in the whirl of work, papers, and whatever else you have chosen to do. It's all too easy to forget who we are, the people who have helped us get to where we are, and those who helped us to find where it is we want to be. That is why I am thankful for all the Interrobang readers and those who have read the New Age Gentleman.

Years from now I will look back upon the emails I received from writing this article and remember that I spoke to many people through the print of the Interrobang.  I also thank the staff at the Interrobang; I am very grateful for the chance to write for you.  Merry Christmas, everyone, and farewell.
