I recently finished a survey I started a few days ago titled, “Who Loves Volleyball?” Sadly the answer to this question seems to be not enough.

Since the beginning of the season I have been covering both the men's and women's volleyball teams and I decided that I would like to know how many of the student population actually care about the volleyball teams. I went into the survey believing that most likely half of the students I surveyed would have seen a game, but I was wrong.

I broke the survey into four categories, if they knew that Fanshawe had a volleyball program, if they knew what place both teams were in, or either team, if they had attended a game, and if they had ever read one of the volleyball articles. I surveyed 100 students, and out of 100 students, 90 had not seen a game and only one person knew what place one of the teams were in. Fortunately there was better news on the other segments. Over 87 students knew that we had a volleyball program which is good. Knowing is power and as long as they know, they might come out. As for the volleyball articles, 38 students had read the volleyball articles in the paper.

With playoffs in view and the final season games under way, it is imperative that we as a student body, surround both the volleyball and basketball teams with support as they embark into playoffs. The volleyball women have safely made it into playoffs, while the men's fate is till up in the air.

Out of this survey comes some hope though, it brought enlightenment for the people who didn't know, now do and a lot of the people were a little embarrassed that they didn't know about the teams or have not been to any games. So let's gather around as the competitive spirit is in the air with the Olympics, and let's support our Falcons!
