Humber women upset Falcons in basketball

A promising night turned out to be an exercise in frustration as the Fanshawe Falcons women's basketball team fell to Humber 72-53, dropping their record to 3-2.

The Falcon's entered the game feeling confident and relaxed and appeared to have a favourable match-up against a short Humber team. But despite the confidence Humber came out quick and dominated creating a number of Fanshawe mistakes.

Fanshawe's Larrisa McBean moves the ball up-court versus Humber. With poor communication on the floor the women fell behind early and were clearly out of synch. Coach Matt White, showing his frustration, knew this wasn't their style. The Falcons have a strong offensive and defensive team and normally show excellent team work. Humber silenced the crowd with three pointers and key shots while the Falcons couldn't find the answers and fell deeper into foul trouble, complicating matters.

The Falcon's Jessica Finley continued to display her leadership skills and tried to take control of the game trying to motivate the women and attempting to get her teammates to regain their focus. Finley finished with 11 points. Kaitlind Dutrizac also had a good night with 12 points.

Look for the women to come out next game and show hard work and dedication. The women do have a strong team and our extremely talented. Learning how to take full advantage of their strengths will be huge for them, and also learning from their mistakes will only make them better. The women remain focused on winning a championship. A loss tonight, while disappointing, means they learned a hard lesson that should help them become better as a team.
