Local Business Profile: Posh Pedicures pamper you

Walking into the Posh Pedicure Lounge on Wellington Street is like walking into your eccentric girlfriend's bedroom — a lot of pink, a little leopard print and a chair shaped like a giant high heel, also leopard print. It might sound a little overwhelming, but even for those opposed to hot pink — it's hard not to smile once you get inside.

Classy touches like twinkly chandeliers, plush pillows, and a warm atmosphere add to the fun quirkiness of the lounge.

If that's not enough to put a smile on your face, owner and London-native, Penny Rumming and her eight staff members will make you feel right at home. After all, it's all part of the “swanky social spa experience” customers get every time they come in, says Rumming.

The idea for the Posh Pedicure Lounge came just as a “flub of an idea,” she says. It would be a place where people could get pedicures with a “party atmosphere.” Unlike a lot of start-up businesses, Posh Pedicure Lounge only took four months to create its concept, “hunt for pink,” and get business off the ground. It went from a place to get just pedicures to the place to get everything else from scented pedicures — vanilla anyone? — to men's manicures and pedicures — yes, they do get men clients - to spray tanning.

They often get individual customers but groups are also popular — from a bunch of girlfriends to stagette parties, featuring pole-dancing lessons. The Lounge loves group gatherings and also often hosts corporate events and client appreciation nights.

The Posh Pedicure Lounge is about catering to its clientele and anticipating their needs. One example is their Mom-Friendly Wednesday mornings where tired moms can come in for a little pampering and feel okay about bringing their children. Or taking care of birthday party planning so you just have to show up. But what's a girls' night out without food? They've got that covered too. No strict spa rules - customers are allowed to bring in whatever food they like for their festivities, cell phones do not have to be turned off — it's a laid-back environment, perfect for a little indulgence.

“We want it to be a fun experience,” says Rumming. “We want customers to feel relaxed and at home.”
