Fanshawe Fashionista: The new generation of fashion role models

We get our sense of style and flare from the people we looked up to growing up; our mothers, sisters, friends and the famous icons we would see on TV would all contribute to our growing fashion sense. A lot of who we are today was shaped by these inspirational figures and molded us by setting an example.

Not only did the exposure and experiences we had growing up evolve our personalities, values and attitudes, but it also gave us that keen sense of style and fashion that we posses today. From little girls trying on their mother's heels and wearing her lipstick, to mature women shopping for that perfect outfit for a special night, we have come along way in knowing exactly what it is we are looking for.

Personal style has never been so diverse, and in this day and age we recycle the many looks that clothed our grandmothers, mothers and older siblings. The past few decades have had their own type of style, and looks that were reflected in that style. Those many different genres of fashion can all be found in the clothing we wear today. Elements of the 1920's, 60's, 80's and many more are imbedded into modern fashion. Portrayals of Audrey, Marilyn, Madonna and Princess Diana, or who ever your icon growing up was, can be found somewhere in your closet. These icons stick with us and evolve with us, even though many of them have already passed, along with family members who share your same keen style.

And as you grow, the same effect happens to the youth today that look up to you. Someone in this world looks up to your personal style, and that person dreams to grow up and look as polished, as they believe you to be. Life is about cycles, and so is fashion. Everything that was once present leaves for a while and then comes back reincarnated, and better suited for that era.

Although trends come and go frequently, the impression you may leave on someone who looks up to you and your style may last a lifetime, as it did for you with someone who you admired. So leave your mark, just make sure it's a style-worthy one!
