Career Corner: Work Study may be the answer

Looking for a job on campus this summer? Why not check out the Fanshawe College Work Study jobs which are advertised on www.fanshawec.ca/careerservices. If you qualify you might just find yourself working on campus in a college department or within the Fanshawe Student Union.

The purpose of Work Study is to assist students who are in financial need, are already receiving financial aid through OSAP but still require additional assistance. Work study jobs have been created on campus to ensure that students have the resources to meet expenses associated with their education. The added bonus is that these positions also give you valuable experience to add to your resume.

The Work Study program offers both full and part time positions. To be eligible for the full time work study positions (35 hours per week) you must NOT be in school over the summer, but must be returning to your studies in the fall. The part time program is open only to students who ARE in school for the summer and are available to work 10 to 12 hours per week. To be eligible for either program, you must have been carrying a minimum of 60 per cent course load in your current semester; meet the Canadian Citizenship criteria, and demonstrate financial need (this means, your allowable expenses are more than your resources, OSAP funding and student loan).

Here's how you get started...you must complete a Work Study application (available online at www.yourmoneydance.com) and follow the following steps: Select “Click here to apply for all other bursaries!”, and under “Bursary Name”, enter “Work Study”, and hit ‘Search'. Select either the full or part time Work Study program and select ‘Apply'. From there, simply log on using your Fanshaweonline user name and password. Provide the information as requested and submit the completed application. Staff in the Financial Aid office will review your application to ascertain your eligibility and provide a written response within 10 business days. When you get your approval letter, come to F2010, Career Services, and ask for the contact information and detailed job descriptions for the positions you wish to apply to.

There are many Work Study positions currently available and all of them are posted on the Career Services Job Posting site www.fanshawec.ca/careerservices. Select FOR JOB SEEKERS — VIEW JOBS, log on with your Fanshawe student ID number. Select “On-campus” and read through the various jobs listed. As mentioned above, once you have your letter from Financial Aid approving you for Work Study, visit the Career Services office for more specific information on how to apply for the positions you are interested in.
