30 hours of fun, man

That's right, the 30 Hour Famine is coming up on April 17, but this year we really want to put the focus on helping out starving kids, but also having fun. Many people say they would love to help but are not able to go 30 hours without food, that's pretty understandable and no one is going to make you starve yourself. We are completely aware some people have health issues and need to eat; the point is to help raise money for people who can't afford to eat, not to starve yourself and faint.

However, I do encourage anyone who is willing and able to go that long without eating for a good cause to do so; it worked out pretty good for Gandhi anyway.

The fact is there are people in many countries that can not afford to eat, who do not have access to healthy food and water so World Vision started the 30 Hour Famine to raise money for these people but also to bring their living conditions to our attention.

Most of us do not think about people living half way across the world and whether or not they have healthy food and water. In Ontario, we are lucky enough have programs to try and help those in need like food banks and breakfast clubs and soup kitchens (which are all very important organizations by the way and are usually in need of volunteers also). World Vision is working on helping people in third world countries that may not even have drinkable water.

The 30 Hour Famine will happen at Fanshawe in Forwell Hall Friday, April 17 starting at 6 pm. We have prizes for whoever raises the most money and we have a lot of fun stuff planned too. We will have a scavenger hunt downtown, movies, and games. Also, you are free to go check out the New Music Night at the Out Back Shack that night too (I don't recommend having any drinks if you haven't eaten for that long...just sayin').

You can chose to do or not do anything we have planned (nobody is going to force you to play two truths and a lie, don't worry). The Famine ends the next morning and everybody involved gets free breakfast, if you are not able to stay the entire night you are not required to. If you do stay the night make sure to bring anything you would need to stay the night. Feel free to bring your PJ's, and blankie, or whatever ridiculously named stuffed animal you night have.

If you chose to fast for 30 hours, you would stop eating Thursday night right before midnight and go all of Friday with no food and then show up in Forwell Hall at 6pm for the festivities and then wake up nice and early Saturday morning for breakfast.

You can pick up the sponsorship form in the Student Union Office, SC2001, and then start collecting funds to raise money for the 30 Hour Famine.
