Lady cagers capture OCAA bronze

The Fanshawe Falcons women's basketball team have ended their playoff journey with an OCAA bronze medal win against St. Lawrence Kingston.

After losing to the Seneca Sting in a close match ending 53-41 in the semifinals, the Falcons moved to the bronze medal game against St. Lawrence Kingston. In a fairly close game, the Falcons pulled through with a 72-64 win snagging the bronze medal to top off an excellent season.

The Falcons excellent play throughout the year is even more evident after the OCAA Championship banquet held in Brampton where league awards and winners were announced. The Falcons came out with several awards: Coach Matt White won West Coach of the Year, Alison Griffiths won West Defensive Player of the Year, and made first team West region, and Julia Wolynski was placed on the all-rookie team.

The winner of the OCAA championship was the Sheridan Bruins, who now have won back-to-back gold medals. The Seneca Sting failed to capture their third gold medal in the last four years when they lost to the Bruins 75-65 in the gold medal game.

Congratulations to the women's basketball team on such a fantastic job this season!
