The Coast washes up at the Shack

Fanshawe was once again visited by the band The Coast and the music was supreme.

This all-Canadian band from Toronto played at the Out Back Shack at Fanshawe in early November. Their first visit to Fanshawe was in Forwell Hall opening for Tokyo Police Club last February. This year they were the headlining band. While the show was smaller, the music was not.

The Coast played music from both of their albums, their first self-titled album, and their second, Expatriate.

Their musical style is rock, with enticing melodies and meaningful lyrics. While their music is very unique and experimental, their sound is described as pop, indie and alternative.

For me, The Coast's songs are very easy to listen to by being both soothing and captivating. I found myself in a trance during the show, just willing there to be more. It seemed that way for most of the people there.

The Coast, who have been together since 2005, consists of Ben, Ian, Jord and Luke. They will continue to tour around Ontario until the New Year, and are scheduled to travel to Europe in February.

For those interested in listening to their music, head to their MySpace page to hear songs from their second album, at www.myspace.com/thecoastmusic.

If you are looking for more information on the band and their upcoming gigs, head to their website, at thecoastmusic.com. For current or soon to be fans, band member Ben told me that they are currently working on a new album. I personally can't wait for them to come back to London.
