Snowflakes

I sit within and hear a sound,
My eyes turn towards the window.
Outside the windswept roofs resound,
The snow like fire swirling round,
In flurries racing 'cross the ground
And sweeping o'er the lintel.

Outside a dance is raging,
A song sings wild and clear.
The snowflakes twist and frolic
Through complex changing spheres.
Each tiny flake of silver,
Is clothed in icy frills.
Their shining, blinding bodies,
Spread over all the hill.
Entranced I stare, the snow like glass
Reflects a sparkling sea.
Each crystal flake, such tiny mass
Though many fall, from first to last
Each pattern changes
None the same
Yet joyfully, across the plains
They join to work and make a whole,
While frisking 'bout, they swiftly sow
Across the plains
A field of snow
