With the next snow fall well on its way, faux fur coats are a hot trend to cozy up to for winter. I'm not talking just fur trimmed sleeves and hoods, this season it's full-fur coats and plenty of animal prints that's making a statement.

The styles found trotting down the runway have been (for the most part) classic silhouettes and cuts, drawing the eye to the detail of the rich faux fabrics. Leopard prints, among other animal inspired motifs, all add glamour to this look. But it's not all glamorous; some designers have chosen the shaggy, bohemian, yeti-inspired fabrics to toughen up the classic LBD (little black dress). This is one look I found absolutely fabulous!

Designer label Missioni executed the fur trend with classic luxury for Fall/Winter ‘09. Mixing soft silk and tulle with mink fur inverted trapeze jackets, ponchos and dresses for that classic look. Chloe's designer, Melim Andersson , went for the 70's inspired approach with an embellished coyote fur coat. Proenza Schouler's long haired shag coat could pass for the fur of the Muppets character Animal, but somehow looked undeniably chic teamed with a silky dress and pumps.

Take a fur style que from one of my favourite trend setters, Kate Bosworth. She wore a boho yet lux long haired coat designed by Fendi. Bosworth wore this adorable ensemble belted at the waistline to further define her figure and which carried out a cool contemporary look. With her coat creating a loud accent, she kept the rest of her look toned down by wearing black opaque tights under black shorts and a great pair of pumps.

If wearing a fur coat just isn't your bag, there are tons other ways to warm up to this look. Opt for a classic fur stole to dress up your holiday party frock or keep your hands toasty with a pair of fury gloves. If you're after an even more subtle approach, leopard print pashmina scarves are equally as chic.

Though the “animal” style is very chic, you don't want to be mistaken for a furry creature. Remember, if you're going to wear fur, keep minimal by coordinating it with basics (think Bosworth). Not only will these animal prints keep you toasty warm this winter, but you'll look fashionably fur-ocious.
