Products that are worth the price

There are some things worth splurging on, like a designer bag, and others worth saving on, like a cami. But what about mascara? Or foundation, for that matter? Is it better to get the tried and true CoverGirl basics, or to have Chanel on your lashes? In my humble opinion, there are some designer make-up essentials totally worth every penny. Here are a few of my favourites.

Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils

The luxurious gold tube says it all. The name, translated into English means ‘to have the effect of false lashes.' I can pretty much vouch for this statement and say that this mascara is the closest thing to fake eyelashes in a bottle.

Its ingredients boast moisturizing wheat germ and apricot seed to naturally condition your eyelashes to give a supple look. The wand easily glides through lashes and separates without clumping in the least. Another key ingredient is silicone resin, which creates more of a film on lashes and allows for even, waterproof coats.

Bonus: it smells fantastic!

Chanel Precision Beaute Initiale Energizing Multi-Protection Fluid SPF 15

Magic in a bottle. What doesn't this lotion do? With a cocktail of vitamins and minerals to protect and enhance your complexion, it also improves the condition of your skin. Its super hydrating formula is easily absorbed into skin and feels light as a moisturizer or a base for makeup. Not only does the magnesium and copper repair damaged cells, blue ginger adds radiance, a glow that rival's JLo's. The price is a bit steep, but isn't a perfect complexion totally worth it?

DiorSkin AirFlash Spray Foundation

Don't let the spray-paint like format turn you away; this is the lightest foundation I have ever used. The can dispenses a fine mist of super light, skin-perfecting foundation for days you run out of your Chanel Precision Fluid. It literally “airbrushes” out any imperfections from uneven skin tone to a lacklustre complexion (after an eventful Saturday night out, who's not guilty of a less than luminous face?). It also easily diminishes the look of fine lines (from laughing, of course!) and creates a flawless base. Offered in six shades, there's one to suit everyone.

Giorgio Armani Maestro Eye Shadow Quads

I'm typically not a huge fan of eye shadow unless I'm going out at night, but Mr. Armani has created incredibly wearable palettes that have me spending a few extra minutes in front of the mirror in the mornings. All six available palettes have been inspired by the Italian coast, such as the earth, sea, vegetation and rocks. Each quad comes with four complimentary shades that melt perfectly into the skin and appear translucent yet brightening. Miraculously, this shadow never creases and always stays put.
