Fanshawe grads play the Shack

Local band Avedis has a special spot in the Fanshawe music scene, seeing as all members were enrolled at the college when they first started playing together a year ago.

By combining heavy rock with a soulful softer sound, Avedis is ready to comeback to the stage of their alta mater this Friday at the Shack.

Avedia began six years ago when lead singer Donna Root, who took accounting here at Fanshawe, met her now husband and drummer Neil Root, who took the Computer Programmer Analyst program.

“They then met Nolan (St. Martin, guitar) through a music classified when looking for a guitarist,” said Avedis bassist Scott Williams, who graduated from Radio Broadcasting last year. “Then last fall through a mutual friend I auditioned for bass and we've been rocking out ever since.”

For the past year the band has been working on their sound and perfecting it for a demo, which will be completed in the New Year and are finding a lot of support in the London music community.

“London is a great place to start out musically,” said Williams. “We know a lot of bands around the area and continue to meet new ones, we get shows through who we meet, and our connections through our educations have definitely helped along the way for sure.”

You can hear Avedis on Friday, October 24 at the Shack for New Music Night or online at www.myspace.com/avedisband and www.avedismusic.com.
