The fringe is back for Fall

The weather is still hot, though you're dieing to start sporting your favourite fall purchases. This is the ideal time to have those summer/fall transitional pieces to save you from all the madness! Accessories are key transitional staples that will help you get a few more weeks out of your summer clothing and while preparing your wardrobe for fall's fashion must haves!

One transitional accent that I have spotted on many summer/fall accessories is fringe detailing. It's carrying the ever-popular folkloric flower child trend from this summer into the Russian-haute-hippie look fall collections have encompassed.

Gucci's Freida Giannini hit the nail on the head with her amazing Devendra over- the- knee tasseled leather boots retailing at about $1,995.

After a recent shopping trip in Toronto I came across a great pair of Minnetonka suede shell fringed moccasin boots at Urban Outfitters ($58), which also come in black as well as a taller style. Fringed boots are a great accent piece when paired with a wintery floral print frock or even a pair of your favourite jean and basic tee.

If boots aren't your thing there are many fringed alternatives to opt for. Go for a sophisticated look with a fringed vest. I give Urban Outfitters Soft premium suede vest cropped short vest ($88) two thumbs up. This accessory would look smashing with a pair of medium washed high-waisted jeans and a basic white tank, and if you're feeling a little daring a feather skinny head wrap.

If you're not so into this western meets hippie trend, then take a more minimalist approach-you may learn to love it. I suggest sporting a fringe embellished bag from your shoulder. Hippie style retailer, Free People does a great little black suede bag with fringe and braided detail on the front ($268). The dark colour of the suede makes it a great fall accessory.

“If you intend on supporting the fringe trend this season then be careful to avoid overkill,” suggests Gill Hart.

“When wearing fringing, keep it on the fringe by restricting it to just one item. Pair it with something simple, and let the fringe detailing shine! However, if you want to team your purse with some fringed-fashion footwear, remember to still keep in minimal to avoid the yeti look!”

The shaggy fringe look is the perfect amount of sexy and playful. With this luxe-boho look decorating everything from dresses and skirts to shoes and purses it's easy to find a piece that best suits your individual style.

If you're a little tight for cash, as students normally are then test your luck at a thrift shop. Who knows what authentically vintage fringed fashions you'll come across? Remember to keep your eyes peeled for tassels hanging loosely from bags, or even dresses and tops or fringed-edging on footwear and bags while on your next shopping trip!
