Party Breakdown

Spring 2005: London Police Services begin Project Speakeasy to, “curb the rowdy behaviour that had been occurring during the main bar hours around the city. Goals of the project are to stop some of the damage, fights and disorderly conduct that tends to accompany the influx of celebrating students to the downtown core.” The initiative runs for the month of April.

Fall 2005: Project Speakeasy II begins in the same fashion as its predecessor for the September back-to-school crowd. Spring 2006: Project Speakeasy patrols around Fanshawe, UWO and downtown.

August 2006: London Police Services Board reject a proposal for a permanent police substation near Fanshawe College; the brainchild of local fed-up residents and Ward 3 Coucillor Bernie MacDonald.

September 2006: Project Speakeasy, in its fourth installment and with 12 officers assigned, begins. Beer bottle throwing at police begins and most complaints involve noise complaints. In total, Fanshawe out-performed their Western counterparts for criminal and by-law violations.

Spring 2007: The Speakeasy tally for the 2006/07 post-secondary school year comes in at 1,232 provincial violations and 20 criminal offenses.

September 2007: Project Speakeasy is redefined as project LEARN (Liquor Enforcement and Reduction of Noise), and with it comes trouble for Fanshawe partiers.

September 9, 2007: Thirty London Police Officers respond to an out-ofcontrol party on Fleming Drive. According to police, partiers, which numbered anywhere from 200-500, threw beer bottles and taunted officers Fanshawe student Chris Guerin was tasered by police and charged with Breach of Peace and Resisting Arrest.

September 29, 2007: Project LEARN wraps up but students throw it a farewell party, with more bottles tossed into a crowd of 200 and one person was sent to hospital. Police respond. A total of 808 provincial offence notices and 27 criminal code charges were laid.

October 13, 2007: Another massive Party at 900 Fanshawe College Blvd, where two people were stabbed another suffered injuries when hit with a beer bottle.

October 15, 2007: College responds by sending a mass email to students urged them to limit the size of their parties and stop promotion of parties on Facebook.

October 27, 2007: A Facebook advertised keg party was broken-up before it could begin on Prosperity Court, across the street from the college. Five Fanshawe students were charged with unlawfully selling liquor.

Spring 2008: Project LEARN officers patrols around Fanshawe, UWO and downtown.
