Around the Ring: Cyber Sunday falls short

Another Cyber Sunday has come and gone and just like previous events (and like I called it here), absolutely nothing happened! Forty dollars is a lot of money and for the WWE (or I should say the WWE creative team) to waste people's money like that is a slap in the face. Let's look at how some of the results of the “voting” turned out:

For the ECW championship, John Morrison got 33 per cent, Big Daddy V got 28 per cent and The Miz, above, got 39 per cent. You're telling me that The Miz got more people to vote for him? That's just not right.

Only 31 per cent picked Jeff Hardy to face Randy Orton? Even with Mr. Kennedy getting 10 per cent of the vote, you'd think with Hardy's popularity it would be a lot higher but then again, it's no surprise that WWE wanted HBK in the match and wrote it that way. What makes even less sense (and is another slap in the face for fans) is that Orton got disqualified on purpose to get out of the match. I can't stand cowardly heels and this is exactly what they've turned Orton into.

With all the hype and violence surrounding the HHH/Umaga feud, you'd expect that a cage match would be a given! Well, everyone (including the fans at the show) were disappointed when WWE tried to convince us all that 57 per cent of the fans “voted” for a street fight (while only 26 per cent voted for the cage). Do you smell something rotten? I think this is the worst year ever for Cyber Sunday and the worst attempt of WWE selling us the results.

The most shocking thing of the night, though, came with Batista's clean victory over The Undertaker. I find it fascinating that the Dead Man returns and they (excuse the pun) bury him. I'm glad that they did let Batista hold the belt for more than a month.

RAW the next night was really no better. Nothing happened to set up new storylines or to even get a head start on promoting the Survivor Series. If Cyber Sunday was a good quality Raw, then Raw was like a poor Smackdown show.

Speaking of Smackdown, it seems like that show's “deal” or “agreement” with the ECW brand saved the ECW show from being booted off of the Sci-Fi network and dissolving. That's too bad because it's not ECW anymore, especially with most of the originals gone. I would have liked to have seen ECW fold and let the writers and superstars focus more on the two main shows (especially Raw).

On the TNA side of things, I can't believe that they asked Sting to drop the title only after having it for like two weeks! That really boggles my mind! The other thing that is quite weird about this whole situation is the inclusion of Kevin Nash in the storyline and how this is going to get him back in the ring. Do we really want to watch Nash? He walks like an old man and anytime he throws punches nowadays, they just aren't believable. C'mon, TNA! You have two hours now and you're still just pushing the older guys (and having Team 3D totally desecrate the X Division). Let's get some fresh stuff going!
