There's still a kid inside all of us

Think back.

Think way back.

Remember when you were in public school? That was back when the only thing we had to worry about was when the recess bell was going to ring. The grown-ups would take care of everything else. Now that was the life. But you're in college now! It's time for you to grow up and let go of that stuffed elephant you've been sleeping with every night since you had your tonsils removed in grade three.

It's time to stop playing “dress-up” with the kids down the street. It's time to stop getting Mommy to pack your lunch for you in your Power Rangers lunchbox- unless, of course, she cuts the crust off of your sandwich and puts a pack of Dunkaroos in with it. That's impossible for anybody to turn down.

Just last week, some of us were staying up late with our best friends playing video games all night, while others were sitting in circles sharing the juiciest gossip and straightening each other's hair. So why are these things now no longer acceptable? Why do we have to grow up so fast? Just because we're college students doesn't mean we have to grow up. There's nothing wrong with riding our bikes down to the store and getting a tasty ice cream on a hot summer day.

Don't let anyone try to tell you that college students don't “do that kind of stuff.” When someone tells you “you're too old for that kind of thing” let them know what you think. Well, unless you're drinking from a bottle or something. You're definitely too old for that. We're not going to change our entire lifestyles just because some miserable adult doesn't think that those kinds of things are “mature”.

There's still a kid inside every one of us that wants to have fun. So do yourself a favour and listen to that energetic youngster. Half the time he or she has a better take on life then that grown-up you've become. Who knows, maybe opening up and listening to that free spirit could lead you in the right direction.
