Fashion Fashionista: Nautical look taking sail this summer

Ahoy Sailor!

The fashion focus of the year is hands-down the nautical inspired theme, which is back from last summer by popular demand. The look is everywhere; high-end stores, bargain shops and vintage boutiques across the nation armed with red white and blue as if every day was the forth of July. Since this theme makes an appearance almost every spring, in many variations, incorporate classic pieces with new trends to form a sailor- chic ensemble.

Gold accents are a must and combine a Cleopatra meets Popeye look to die for. Rope-inspired jewels are popping up everywhere, and if you know how to tie a sailor's knot than that is a bonus for sure. Belts securely knotted around the waist are not only practical, but also appropriate for the theme.

Big buttons are one thing to look for to complete your ensemble, along with hair and neck scarves, anchor and wheel accents and oversize bags suitable for any voyage (even if it is just to the grocery store).

Luckily navy blue complements almost all complexions and is easy to care for. A splash of red and gold spices up any outfit, and you're ready to hit the town day or night. The trend is less “pirate” and more “yacht club.” Not as much scull and crossbones, more and more anchor and ribbons. Cool and conservative, as less once again becomes more and the allure is not only what you're wearing, but how you're wearing it.

Nautical inspired swimwear has hit the runways and continues to dominate as the top trend for this season. One piece or two, the look is comfortable and classic and works wonders as water inspired this theme in the first place.

Sing as though no one can hear you, dance as though no one is watching, and frolic through town as though you've just sailed the seas in style. That sun-kissed glow always helps, so be sure to moisturize, as any true sailor would and enjoy the sunshine.

With such a cute look in the horizon, 2007 may be the year you jump on board the nautical trend.
