Another musical success brought to you by Britain and Ipod

The Fratellis - Costello Music

When listening to a new album, even if it is a disc by one of my favourite bands, often it takes multiple listens to completely gauge my level of like or dislike for that particular record.

Well it only took about three minutes of listening to The Fratellis opening song “Henrietta” to get my ears perked, and maybe another 15 minutes of listening to the album to get me completely hooked.

The high level of energy that shines through in Costello Music and the mix of Beatle-like sing-along lyrics and backing vocals, combined with modern punk-rock guitar riffs, makes The Fratellis an instant favourite in my musical stratosphere.

I honestly enjoy the entirety of the album but to narrow down a couple of the top tracks, “Henrietta”, “Chelsea Dagger”, “Vince The Lovable Stoner”, “Whistle For The Choir”, and “Flathead” are some of the albums best.

Many people will recognize The Fratellis song “Flathead” as it is getting local radio play on FM96 and is featured in the latest Apple iPod commercial.

The Fratellis, consisting of band members Jon Fratelli, lead guitar and vocals, Barry Fratelli, bass guitar, and Mince Fratelli, drums, hail from Glasgow, Scotland and formed in the early part of 2005.

Of note - the band member's last names are all pseudonyms, and none are actually related to one another.

Since releasing Costello Music they have gained rave-reviews in the British press, having won the 2007 Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act, and have steadily been gaining notoriety in North America ever since.

As my father hails from Fleetwood, England I grew up listening to The Beatles and subsequently grew fond of the early ‘90's British pop-rock scene as well, including the entire Oasis catalogue.

I also really enjoy the music of other British rock bands currently invading the new-wave generation of British-rock including the Arctic Monkey's and The Kooks, however The Fratellis arguably head that list for me right now.

The genuine vibe and energy I feel from The Fratelli's music makes me wanting more from them and I recommend picking up Costello Music to anyone that has enjoyed past British-rock music and current Brit-pop as well. You will not be disappointed.
