Georgian Skull give metal a new name

Ok, tell me if this sounds kinda funny; a Canadian stoner metal super group lead by a guy nicknamed “The Yeti.”

That may a little odd, but Al “the Yeti” Bones (guitar/vocals), Steve “Beard” Dugal (guitar), Bob II (bass) and Ace Piva (drums) mean business. If you've never heard of Georgian Skull it could be because they just changed their name from Mister Bones after they signed on to Strictly Heavy Management. If you haven't heard of these guys, who draw influence from Pantera, Black Sabbath and Corrosion of Conformity, well you should.

Before the name change, newly named Georgian Skull were making a pretty big name for themselves, while catching the attention of both Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down and Superjoint Ritual) and Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne) both of which speak very highly of the band and Wylde has even been quoted as saying, “Mister Bones is my favourite band from up North.”

During their time as Mister Bones, these guys have released five albums and have also shared the stage with Crowbar, Entombed, Pro-Pain and Mastodon. However, things are changing with Georgian Skull. Before spring, the band will be hitting the studio in New Jersey to record their new album The Elements of Horror with Billy Grazadei and Danny Schular of the legendary hardcore band Biohazard. After recording, they will be hitting the road for a 56-date tour across North America. Georgian Skull also just finished up filming a music video to be featured on a DVD for pro-wrestler Phil Atlas.

The best way to describe Georgian Skull is best put by The Yeti himself.

“[We are a] Heavy, onslaught of force and power done in the realm of Sabbath meets Pantera. I would say we sound like Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Black Sabbath in a bar fight.” I don't know about you but this made me salivate to the point of drooling. So if you're interested in checking out Georgian Skull they will be playing two shows here in London at the Irish Club with Sledgehammer and Mic Lordz on February 26, and their second show will be at the Last Drop on March 3.

And of course, if you're strapped for cash, which is the only reason you shouldn't go to see these guys, you can always check them out on myspace.com/georgianskull.
