Around the Ring: TNA has opportunity to make impact with Monday night show

Let's start out this week by talking about TNA. As of the time of writing this, we now know that Abyss' big secret was that he was once in jail for shooting his father three times in the back. I like how they've left the details shrouded in secrecy because it keeps the storyline going (along with Sting appearing in Abyss' mask last week) and it makes me as a viewer still wanting to know more. That's a good storyline.

If you read this column online before Monday, February 12th (or the day of), make sure to watch TNA's two hour Monday night presentation on Spike TV. They're coming off of the Against All Odds PPV and they are going up against (in the states, anyway) no WWE RAW (it's being postponed for USA's great Dog Show). I hope they score some new viewers and start a new Monday night war.

In the WWE world, this week's programs were nothing more than building up to who the Undertaker was going to pick as his opponent for Wrestlemania and who John Cena would be facing as well. The Undertaker finally revealed that he was gunning for Batista and the Heavyweight Championship (like he was going to pick Bobby Lashley in the drowning ECW brand). HBK won a triple threat match against Edge and Randy Orton to earn a spot to face Cena at Wrestlemania. Both storylines leading up to WM are going to be interesting because I find it weird that the WWE is going to have two baby face main events. Someone will be turning leading up to or at the big event but it won't be before the WWE tries to soak us out of the No Way Out PPV in February.

I have no clue why (besides making money) the WWE is going to flood us with PPVs before Wrestlemania. The outcome of HBK/Cena vs. Batista/Undertaker isn't going to matter. No matter what happens, the team members will be facing each other in their respected matches! The only thing I can think of that could possible come from this is watching someone turn heel, setting the road to Wrestlemania into full gear.

Rumours are rampant that RVD is waiting out his WWE contract and not signing. If I were RVD, I'd be jumping ship to TNA as soon as possible. More talent would hopefully equal more airtime and exposure. I wish it were that easy because as much as I enjoy the TNA programming, they still need a little more “OOMPH” in their weekly show. Although Smackdown is taped, it still feels like a live broadcast and I think that's one thing that really bugs me about TNA's weekly taped shows. Anyone else agree?

Until next time, keep sending me your wrestling thoughts and if anyone is interested in being a guest in the third annual Wrestlemania round table (post and pre-show) editions, email me ASAP at popeyepopsolive@hotmail.com.
