Student attacked in armed robbery

Guns were involved in the latest crime that took place near Fanshawe College.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31 a break-and-enter occurred on 222 Fleming Drive, just off the campus of Fanshawe College.

According to Amanda Pfeffer, Pubic Information and Media Relations officer for the London Police Department, a small gathering of individuals was taking place when the incident occurred. Some of the individuals resided in the residence and some were visiting.

Although police cannot confirm, a London Free Press article stated that officers on scene said the six or seven individuals in the house at the time were all Fanshawe College students.

“Police are searching for four suspects who fled the crime scene on foot,” Pfeffer said. “The suspects were armed with firearms and took personal property and cash from the home occupants.”

The suspects were described as black and were wearing black balaclavas as well, according to the London Free Press.

One of the home occupants was assaulted by one of the suspects. After being attended to by paramedics on scene, no further medical attention was required of this individual, police said.

Some of the people in the house left the crime scene prior to police arrival due to the fact that they were spooked by the guns and were scared that the suspects might return, Pfeffer said.

However, according to Pfeffer, all of the individuals in the house at the time of the crime are helping the London Police with their investigation.

“They are all giving their full cooperation,” Pfeffer said.

Police are still exploring the reasoning why the suspects targeted the 222 Fleming Drive residence but the investigation is still on-going.

Students heading to and from the College on the morning of Thursday, February 1 said the only thing they saw the night before in relation to the crime was six to eight police cruisers scattered outside the Fleming Dr. residence.
