Sports in Seconds: No jinxing the Colts this year
Nope, I'm not even thinking about it.
For probably the last four or five years I have boldly made the prediction, that my team in the National Football League (NFL), the Indianapolis Colts was going to win the Super Bowl.
And, for the past four or five years I have been left embarrassed at times, distraught, and left feeling empty inside when the Colts failed to live up to expectations and lost in the playoffs.
This year however is going to be different.
No, I am not going to continue with my confident trend and predict that the Colts will be crowned 2007 Super Bowl champions, and no, I am not going to do some weird reverse-psychology-type-deal and say that they are going to lose.
I am simply going to keep quiet, remain indifferent, and let the higher football Gods take control of the their destiny.
In the 2006 Christmas issue of the Interrobang you may recall that I had wished that I could be graced with the situation that I could stop having to find excuses for the Colts and that they could finally become victorious in the Super Bowl.
My wish remains strong, and if I could, I'd like to ask fellow Interrobang writer Michael Veenema to pray for my beloved Colts, and help guide them through to a berth in the epic annual game being held in Miami this year.
The Colts host a very significant foe, their arch-nemesis and bitter rival, the New England Patriots in the American Football Conference championship game on Sunday, January 28.
The battle and rivalry of the two starting quarterbacks, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, will be at centre stage once again, a battle that has been dominated by Brady throughout the two future Hall-of-Fame quarterback's careers.
The result in the game will inevitably be decided by the play of these two men, but as I said before, I refuse to predict what will happen.
Time will tell what the outcome of the game will be but in the meantime I will be collecting rabbits feet, eating Lucky Charms, crossing my fingers, and scouring the sky for shooting stars.
But after all, the Colts symbol is a white horseshoe, so maybe luck will already by on their side.
