From the Editor: Finance Issue
Dear readers,
This year, our annual Finance Issue aligns with a milestone election in the United States. Our featured articles primarily focus on the cost of living crisis and the stress of affording life as a student, and in the shadow of this most consequential election, these concerns feel more pressing than ever.
When I hold job interviews for reporters at the Interrobang, one question I always ask is, “What do you think is the biggest issue facing students today?” Year after year, more and more students tell me, “Finances.” Young people today are making more money than they ever have before, and yet they seem to have less money in their pockets than ever. Global inflation in a post-lockdown world has had ripple effects on our entire economy, and many of us feel as though we are constantly falling behind.
Neither I nor my reporters claim to have the answers to these financial hardships. But many of us understand the struggle. This issue attempts to explore the many ways we as individuals can work to manage our personal finances, while also challenging corporations and governments to put people over profit.
During periods of change, it’s important to keep our eyes on the future, while also being careful to never repeat the mistakes of our past.
Sincerely,
Hannah Theodore
