Fanshawe College students have a new place to meet this summer: CD’s Coffee Bar, which officially opened on May 6. Nestled within Forwell Hall in the Innovation Village, CD’s Coffee Bar is a new spot for students seeking a coffee, tea or a quick bite between classes. CD’s offers beverages, baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, and quick lunch options like hot dogs and cheeseburgers.

Food and Beverage Manager for the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU), Dan Paterson, said it was the students who inspired the introduction of a coffee bar on campus.

“Grinders [in Oasis] has long been a favourite among students, and we recognized an opportunity to extend similar options throughout the summer term while remaining fiscally responsible,” Paterson explained. “We aim to provide students with as many on-campus food choices as possible while creating employment opportunities for fellow Fanshawe students.”

Paterson said CD’s Coffee Bar aims to be more than just a place to grab a cup of joe; it strives to foster a vibrant community hub within Forwell Hall.

“We want to create a destination space for students,” he said. “At this time, CD’s will be open from May to August. Over the next few months, we will gather student feedback and analyze sales data to determine if a more permanent CD’s Coffee Bar is warranted.”

With Starbucks, offered through Fanshawe’s other main food provider, Chartwells, closed for the summer, Paterson hopes CD’s will help offer students a place to connect through the summer term.

“We aim to cultivate a warm and inviting atmosphere where students can unwind, study, or catch up with friends,” he said. “What sets CD’s apart from other options on campus or in the area is our commitment to offering flexible pricing and affordable options. Our Starbucks hot and cold beverages are priced lower, ensuring that quality drinks are accessible to all students. Additionally, we are open to accommodating any customization requests for menu items, and we proudly accept meal plans.”

He added that CD’s Coffee Bar contributes significantly to the overall student experience at Fanshawe College.

“It adds another space for students to gather and socialize, further expanding FSU hospitality outlets and providing more options for students.”

CD’s Coffee Bar operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., though hours are subject to change. With ample seating available, students can comfortably study, socialize, or savour their favourite brew in the welcoming ambiance of Forwell Hall.
