Falcons number one in nation

Look no further than right here on campus for Canada's best college basketball team.

The Fanshawe Falcon men's basketball team was 6-0 going into their match-up with Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) West division rival Niagara College on Wednesday, November 29.

The Falcons have gained national attention for their undefeated start, grabbing the first overall slot in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) men's basketball rankings, making them the top team in the nation.

The Falcons also grabbed a local honour after being named the OCAA men's team of the week on Monday, November 27.

On Tuesday, November 21 the Falcons defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 78-74 in their closest contest so far this season.

Fanshawe recovered from a 39-36 deficit at the half and tied the game before taking the lead with two minutes left to play. Jabari Cooper scored the last of his game-high 31-points with 1.2 second left on the clock to seal the win. The first-year guard also grabbed 16 rebounds in the win.

The Falcons are led by a balanced attack of scorers featuring four players averaging in double digits this season; Cooper (16.8 point per game), Pat Sewell (16.7 points per game), Omar Sybblisss (11.2 points per game) and Pat Wright (10.0 points per game).

The Falcons will start the 2007 part of the regular season on Wednesday, January 17 when they host St. Clair College, game time 6 p.m.
