Fashion Fashionista: Festive fashions to fit the season

Between the Christmas parties, New Year's celebrations and all the other excuses to eat, drink and be merry this season, you have to figure out first and foremost what you are going to wear.

Be sure not to shy away from last-minute holiday invites, even if you are left with no time to shop. You know you already have a closet full of festive gear, even if you throw out the ‘I have nothing to wear' line.

Basic black is always a last minute save, and can be paired with just about anything. Nice heels, clean make-up with a crimson pout and a bit of glitz around your neck and you are ready to rock any Christmas party in style.

One huge mistake that is made quite often, and has nothing to do with what you wear, but instead what you didn't wear. Seeing as we live in Canada, and it gets pretty frigid here, so you must dress for the weather. Wearing a sexy pair of black tights not only completes your look, but they keep you from having purple legs at the party. Also, a warm dress coat and scarf is a must. The look is classic, and will last for many seasons to come.

Sexy doesn't mean sickly, and that's how you will feel if you are not dressed for the weather — (thanks mom).

Also, a big no-no is either being too dressed up, or not festive enough. You don't want to outshine the 600-bulb Christmas tree, so either do it up with the fabric that you choose, or the jewels, not both. But make sure that you put some effort into your outfit, because you don't want to stand out as the ‘party crasher' in the corner who is clearly underdressed.

Red is always a great holiday colour, but feel free it mix it up this year by sporting a trendy violet, royal blue or kelly green. For a really fresh look, powder white will truly stand out in a big way; just make sure you have the right winter complexion to pull it off.

When in doubt, the little black dress always comes to the rescue. This is a classic piece that can be paired with just about anything, and dressed up or down as much as you'd like.

So whatever you do, wherever you go this season, just make sure to do it in style and dress for the weather. The holidays are a great time to catch up with old friends, make new ones and spend time with those you love the most. Make the look a memorable one and enjoy every glamorous moment. Happy Holidays!
