Fashion Fashionista: Infusion of Aboriginal fashion

This past weekend was host to the 2006 Contessa's Global Beauty Gala Awards in Toronto, an event that displays and honours the industries top hair professionals.

A main stage focus at this event was a First Nation's presentation, depicting modern day aboriginal men and woman, infusing current makeup and hair trends, with traditional-chic clothing.

Sexy low-cut-open-back, and side-less dresses laced with bone beading, complemented the rustic look of men adorned in similar beading. Elaborate headdresses of brown and crimson feathers graced each model's head, as modern hair trends tied into the whole look. This runway presentation brought an interesting twist to the catwalk as tradition clashed perfectly with sultry to conceive a symbolic sexy show.

The mastermind behind this concept was an Aboriginal organization called Turtle Concepts, who has raised the bar for youth and teaches them, through motivational speaking, workshops and learning, by example that it's ‘cool' to make good decisions and know the difference between right and wrong.

Dave Jones, concept developer and motivational speaker of Turtle Concepts, orchestrated the presentation along with local North American Master Stylist, Heather Wenman, who provided an added flare to deliver to an audience of over 1000 beauty industry professionals a dynamic performance. The powerful footage of confident performers captured from this event will be used to inspire and educate a generation of individuals seeking a positive perspective.

This infusion of fashion with passion will inspire individuals to lead a more positive lifestyle and is a growing concept that is seen more and more in the large fashion houses of the world.

This synergy repels the negative constraints that sometimes follow this industry and works toward building self-esteem, confidence and a healthy self-image.
