Fanshawe marketing unappealing

RE: “Appealing to Students” Fanshawe's new marketing campaign
November 2, 2006.

Are you kidding me? Would you be so kind as to explain to me what you are marketing??? Did anyone research the meaning of Human Services and what it involves? I am a SSW student at Fanshawe and I have to tell you that I am embarrassed. While you mentioned “older and wiser”, I may not be staff, but I am a mature student and an important part of the college's future! Allow me to quote something from your paper. “These are the first steps to breaking out of Fanshawe's old mould and positioning the college from a marketing prospective to remain competitive against other colleges and universities for future students”. The only thing I see “breaking out” are breast. I have seen some of the posters and artwork created by Fanshawe students, they are exquisite. I think these ads are tasteless and not to mention demeaning!!! Are you then sending out the message that mature students need not apply because they don't fit the “mould”??????

RE: A proposition to Fanshawe students October 30, 2006

Many Fanshawe students own cars, it's clear. Just take a walk around Gatewalk, or Fleming Drive, and cars line the streets, in nearly every driveway. So here's my question for the students of Fanshawe - if it were started, would you use a rideshare system?

What if you own a car and you were driving home to lets say, Hamilton for the weekend. You post on an online system that you can drive others for gas money. When they respond to your post, their student number is checked with their name to make sure that they are actually students, to eliminate the risk. You drive them for 10 bucks each, and: your gas money for the trip is then paid for, the students who you drive pay less than taking the Greyhound, and it's more environmentally friendly to have a full car of passengers.

This is a win-win situation, which can be relatively low-risk, but would you give it a shot?

Shelter needed

RE: Transit serves in London October 26, 2006
I am totally amazed that in a city that has low LTC ridership, parking limitations at Fanshawe College and a City Hall who is trying to “Go Green” that the new Fanshawe College expansion does not contain a decent Bus Shelter system. Standing in an open street in the rain waiting for a bus is not going to encourage people/students to take Public Transport.

Why was not a decent bus shelter system factored into the renovations? All I can say is that Howard Rundle, Larry Ducharme (LTC General Manager) and Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco obviously drive to work. There is a huge student population who are customers of the LTC and no provision has been factored in for their comfort, what hypocrisy! I guess taking the bus is for losers and 2nd class citizens.

One very wet Fanshawe College student, standing in the mud on Oxford Street!
