Fanshawe Fashionista: Sexy, not slutty, is in for Halloween

This magical time of year is rolling around once again, where you can become anything you can imagine, and transform yourself with the help of a little makeup and the right outfit.

Halloween costumes provide little barriers, and endless opportunities. The sky is the limit and the process of first deciding what you want to be and then seeking out the garment is half the fun.

This year, the top trends appear to be sweet opposed to scary, fantasy instead of fearful. The gory ghoulish look is for trick or treaters, while the party scene is all about the glitz and glam of what goes bump in the night.

Mocking costumes are always fun and provide a not so subtle way to poke fun at those who deserve a bit of heat. While surfing the net for the perfect Halloween costume, I came across great George Bush costumes, Brit and K-Fed clones and Martha Stewart in stripes even topped the lists.

The ‘my hero' garbs are also a big hit, as girls and guys can equally pull off a sexy firefighter or police officer uniform, or switch gears to strapping on a cape and attempt to save the world in bright coloured tights.

For a more chill approach to the holiday, you can always mimic the great days of a groovy past and make love, not war in a comfy hippie costume. Not everyone has to go all out, to have a good time.

Although sex sells, as it is a huge seller in the party stores nation wide, it doesn't always have to be that way to go. If you are a little more conservative, but still down for a great night and want to look hot, a great idea is to make your own costume. Instead of paying a lot of money for a cheap pleather look, bust out a sewing machine to make your own, or hit up Value Village for a truly custom/vintage look.

Regardless of what vibe you're feeling this year, the most important thing is to have fun with it. Fashion in general provides day to day a way to express yourself; however Halloween fashion eliminates any barriers and allows you to get as crazy and creative as possible.

As long as you feel comfortable and excited about your costume, you'll feel hot with looks that could kill.
